Recognition and Degree Awarding Powers ...
The International University of Georgia (formerly Tbilisi Teaching University Gorgasali) was founded in 1995. In accordance with the requirements resulting from the reforms in the educational system, the university has successfully passed all stages of the official authorization and accreditation processes in 2002, 2007 and 2012.

UNIGEO is recognized by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) which conducts recognition of educational institutions (list position No. 40) based on the Georgian legislation authorized by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia. Reg.-No.: 204931985

All programmes of professional and academic studies and/or training comply with the regulatory framework of Higher Education of the Republic of
Georgia and are governed by the Ministry of Education and Science’s actual regulations. The Ministry of Education and Science has granted full Degree Awarding Powers to UNIGEO (University Gorgasali) with its Decision No. 304 dated in its latest version 23rd October 2012.

Further attention is drawn to the full membership of the Republic of Georgia in the Process of Harmonisation of Higher Education in Europe (also known as Bologna Process). This means that UNIGEO University’s Programmes of Studies are officially part of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Consequentially all Certificates and Transcripts issued by our University award valid ECTS credits being aligned with the extent of the respective programme and level of studies.

The UK National Recognition Information Centre:
UK NARIC is part of the NARIC network. This is an initiative of the European Commission and was created in 1984. The network aims at improving academic recognition of diplomas and periods of study in the Member States of the EU, the EEA countries and the associated countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Cyprus. It is also the UK National Agency in the wider European Network of Information Centres (ENICs).

Additional accreditation and individual official recognition of our University’s Degrees exists, e.g., in the United Kingdom and in Germany. The assessing Government Body of the UK NARIC has approved the validity of the University Degrees as equivalent to those of the United Kingdom’s own Universities and Germany’s so-called "Ständige Konferenz der Kultusminister" has registered our University in the list (Anabin) of recognized international universities.

UNIGEO / University Gorgasali has becomes Member of the UN PRiME Framework for Sustainable and Responsible Management Education in 2016. The PRiME initiative is the first organised relationship between the United Nations and management-related academic institutions, business schools, and universities. Launched at the 2007 UN Global Compact Leaders Summit in Geneva (initiated by Kofi Anan - UN prime minister), the Six Principles constitute an engagement framework for academic institutions to advance corporate sustainability and social responsibility through the incorporation of universal values into curricula and research.
To date, over 600 leading business schools and management-related academic institutions from more than 80 countries across the world are signatories of PRiME. Even more, over one third of the Financial Times' top 100 business schools participate in PRiME.

Tempus is the European Union’s programme, which supports the modernisation of higher education and creates an area of cooperation in countries of and surrounding the EU. Established in 1990, the scheme covers 27 countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East.

UNIGEO / University Gorgasali is Member at the European Commission and participates at the following TEMPUS Programme:

Tempus is furthering and supporting the cooperation of academies of partnering countries with European universities, that is based on sharing of experience in the field of European standards for education, elaboration of educational agendas and programmes that fits the market economy, provision of modern literature, trainings for rising the level of teaching skills, students` study abroad, improvement of universities´ management, university reform, application and development of new informational technologies, with preparation of non-academic university staff.

Tempus projects in Georgia, implemented since 1995, have created a solid basis for the successful implementation of the Bologna Principles, while supporting curriculum development, the introduction of quality assurance mechanisms, national qualifications framework and lifelong learning.

World Reputation by International Ranking


UNIGEO/Gorgasali has reached an impressive position No. 3 among top universities in Georgia. The Ranking Web of Universities is the world wide largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions performed by the Cybermetrics Lab the largest public research body in Spain (http://www.webometrics.info/en).


The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. CSIC is among the first basic research organizations in Europe. The CSIC consisted in 2006 of 126 centers and institutes distributed throughout Spain. CSIC is attached to the Ministry of Education and its main objective is to promote scientific research as to improve the progress of the scientific and technological level of the country which will contribute to increase the welfare of the citizens.
